Celebrating H4C’s First Birthday 06.05.2012

  The Home for Cooperation (H4C) located at the Ledra Palace Buffer Zone is celebrating it very first birthday on Sunday 6 May 2012, at 3 pm and Youth Power is looking forward to participating in the event!   Since its inauguration in 2011, H4C works as a shared space for intercommunal cooperation and dialogue, hosting a library and archive, conference and exhibition spaces, as well as offices accommodating a number of NGOs. Its objectives are: 1.    To provide opportunities for NGOs and individuals to design and implement innovative projects, which will help build the foundations for empowering civil society and building lasting relationships island wide. 2.    To encourage Cypriots to demonstrate the benefits of cooperation across the existing divide. 3.    To enhance awareness of the complexity and diversity of history towards empowering individuals to respond to present and future demands based on understanding and mutual respect. Youth Power Film Nights: The Age Of Stupid 26.04.2012

Youth Power is happy to launch the first Youth Power Film Night, with the screening of The Age Of Stupid, indie documentary film, taking place on Thursday 26 April, 2012, 6:30 pm, at CCMC. The screening is free of charge, accompanied by refreshments and the opportunity for the participants to share their views on the film and the issues it portrays in the end.   Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite (In The Name of the Father, The Usual Suspects, Brassed Off) stars in this dynamic film, as a man living in the devastated future world of 2055, looking back at old footage from our time and asking: why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance? Multi-award-winning documentary director Franny Armstrong (McLibel, Drowned Out) and Oscar-winning producer John Battsek (One Day In September, Restrepo) pioneered the now ubiquitous "crowd-funding" model to finance the film, and then spent four years following seven real people's stories ...

Global Screening of One Day On Earth 22.04.2012

  On Sunday 22 April, 2012, International Earth Day, the Cyprus Community Media Centre (CCMC) and Youth Power proudly present the international screening of One Day On Earth, a collaborative film documenting the human experience on 10 October 2010, as captured by volunteer filmmakers all across the globe. The screening takes place simultaneously in Nicosia (CCMC premises, Greek subtitles) and Lefke (The Environmental Society of Lefke, Turkish subtitles) at 8 pm, in parallel with screening events happening around the world.   One Day On Earth is hailed as “the world’s largest media collaboration” according to oneddayonearth.org. For this film project the One Day On Earth community has partnered with the United Nations, with 60+ NGOs, as well as with a number of filmmakers and other inspired creators from literally every country in the world. Youth Power Party 30.01.2012

The Home for Cooperation across the Ledra Palace Hotel, was overflowing with activity on Monday night, as people from all over Cyprus came to participate to our Youth Power Party. Youth activists, peace workers and plenty of other interested individuals, got together to celebrate peace, the new identity of Youth Power and to find out about our new programme, aimed at financing bi-communal peace initiatives, the Youth Power Small Grants. The evening rolled pleasantly with snacks and drinks, to the sounds of the guitar and the violin. Plenty of gifts were given out to every guest, the independent young group of Youth Leaders and Cultural Activists was awarded special tokens of appreciation for their outstanding contribution to peace activism, and a treasure hunt was held to claim a fabulous Kindle Fire! One StreetS Festival 26.11.2011

November – December 2011, Morphou, Limassol, NicosiaBeginning in Morphou (26 November 2011) moving on to Limassol (03 December 2011) and culminating in Nicosia (10 December 2011) One StreetS Festival, organized by Youth Leaders and Cultural Activists, an independent group of young Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots, gained the vote of confidence from the young people of Cyprus. The slogan “CTR+ALT+DELETE: Let’s Bring The Walls Between Us Down” was chosen by the organizers to highlight the aim of the festival in bringing the different communities of the island together. In a spirit of creative exuberance, with music, dance, street performances and open air exhibitions, the festival succeeded in providing a common ground for the youth of Cyprus to come together, have fun and reclaim the streets of the island in the name of peace and tolerance.
